Chapter 83·The gods send for Kāma·Verses 1–दोहा 83
देवताओं द्वारा कामदेव का आह्वान
Brahmā says: do as I advise, and God will help. Satī, who gave up her body at Dakṣa's sacrifice, has been born in the house of Himālaya. She did penance to win Śambhu as husband, while Śiva sits in meditation, giving up everything. Though this is a difficult matter, hear one thing from me: send Kāma to Śiva to stir his mind; then we will go and bow our heads to Śiva and have him wed by persuasion. In this way the gods will be helped, and all say Kāma is a good choice. The gods praise Kāma with great feeling, and the god with the five flower-arrows and the fish banner appears. The gods tell him all their trouble; hearing it, Kāma thinks, and says with a laugh: to oppose Śambhu is not good for me.ब्रह्मा कहते हैं: मेरी बात सुनकर उपाय करो; ईश्वर सहायक होंगे। सती ने जो दक्ष के यज्ञ में देह त्यागी थी, वह हिमालय के घर जन्मी है। उसने शम्भु को पति पाने के लिए तप किया है, और शिव सब कुछ त्यागकर समाधि में बैठे हैं। यद्यपि यह बड़ी उलझन की बात है, फिर भी मेरी एक बात सुनो: कामदेव को शिव के पास भेजो, वह शंकर के मन में क्षोभ पैदा करे; तब हम जाकर शिव को सिर नवाएँगे और बलपूर्वक विवाह करवा देंगे। इस प्रकार देवताओं का हित भी होगा; कामदेव का चुनाव सबको बहुत अच्छा लगा। देवताओं ने बड़े प्रेम से स्तुति की और विषम बाण वाले मीनध्वज कामदेव प्रकट हुए। देवताओं ने अपनी सब विपत्ति कही; सुनकर कामदेव ने मन में विचार किया और हँसकर कहा कि शम्भु का विरोध करने में मेरा कुशल नहीं।

कामदेव को शिव के पास भेजो, वह शंकर के मन में क्षोभ उत्पन्न करे। तब हम जाकर शिव को सिर नवाएँगे और हठपूर्वक विवाह करवा देंगे।
Send Kāma to Śiva, to stir his mind. Then we shall go, bow our heads to Śiva, and have the marriage done by insistence.

४4एहि बिधि भलेहि देवहित होई। मर अति नीक कहइ सबु कोई ॥अस्तुति सुरन्ह कीन्हि अति हेतू। प्रगटेउ बिषमबान झषकेतू ॥
