The sages find Gaurī like penance itself taking a body. They ask: whom do you worship, what do you want, why not tell us the truth? She says her words falter, for they will laugh at her foolishness. Her mind is set in its stubbornness and will not take advice, as if she would build a wall on water. Nārada said it and she took it as truth; she wants to fly without wings. Look at my folly, sages: I want Śiva for a husband. Hearing this, the sages laugh and say: Girl, you were born of the mountain; hear Nārada's teaching and tell me, whose house did it ever make a home?
