दोष गुण बराबर
Nārada offers one remedy, if fate helps: the faults he listed all fit Śiva, and if she is wed to Śiva, those faults will be counted as virtues. Viṣṇu sleeps on a serpent bed and the wise do not hold it against him; the sun and fire eat everything, yet none calls them bad. The Gaṅgā carries all that is good and bad, and no one calls her unclean. The mighty are not to be blamed, like the sun, fire and Gaṅgā. But fools who copy them out of pride fall into hell for an age; can a soul be like the Lord?नारद एक उपाय बताते हैं, यदि दैव सहायक हो: जिन वर-दोषों का वर्णन किया, वे सब शिव में हैं, और शिव से विवाह हो तो सब दोष भी गुण कहे जाएँगे। विष्णु शेषनाग की शय्या पर सोते हैं, पर बुद्धिमान उनका दोष नहीं मानते। सूर्य और अग्नि सब रस खाते हैं, पर उन्हें कोई बुरा नहीं कहता। गंगा में शुभ-अशुभ सब जल बहता है, पर उसे कोई अपवित्र नहीं कहता। समर्थ को दोष नहीं लगता, जैसे सूर्य, अग्नि और गंगा को। पर जो मूर्ख अभिमान में उनकी बराबरी करते हैं, वे कल्प भर नरक में पड़ते हैं; भला जीव ईश्वर के समान कैसे हो सकता है?

'फिर भी एक उपाय मैं कहता हूँ, यदि दैव सहायक हो। जैसा वर मैंने तुम्हें बताया, उमा को वैसा ही मिलेगा, इसमें संदेह नहीं।
'Still, I can tell one remedy, if Fate lends a hand. I described the groom to you exactly as he is, and you will meet with the same one for Umā.

जिन-जिन दोषों का मैंने वर के लिए वर्णन किया, वे सब मैंने शिव में पाए। यदि शंकर से विवाह हो तो सब लोग उन दोषों को भी गुण ही कहेंगे।
All the faults I described in the groom, I judge, belong to Śiva. If she is wed to Śaṅkara, everyone will count even the faults as virtues.

३3जौं अहि सेज सयन हरि करहीं। बुध कछु तिन्ह कर दोषु न धरहीं ॥भानु कृसानु सर्ब रस खाहीं। तिन्ह कहँ मंद कहत कोउ नाहीं ॥

जब विष्णु शेषनाग की शय्या पर सोते हैं तो ज्ञानी उन पर कोई दोष नहीं रखते। सूर्य और अग्नि सब रस खा जाते हैं, फिर भी कोई उन्हें बुरा नहीं कहता।
When Viṣṇu lies on the serpent bed, the wise lay no blame on him. The sun and fire eat everything, yet no one calls them bad.

४4सुभ अरु असुभ सलिल सब बहई। सुरसरि कोउ अपुनीत न कहई ॥समरथ कहुँ नहिं दोषु गोसाई। रबि पावक सुरसरि की नाई ॥

गंगा में शुभ-अशुभ सब जल बहता है, फिर भी उसे कोई अपवित्र नहीं कहता। हे स्वामी, समर्थ को दोष नहीं लगता, जैसे सूर्य, अग्नि और गंगा को।
The Gaṅgā carries all waters, good and bad, yet no one calls her unclean. There is no fault in the mighty, master, any more than in the sun, fire and Gaṅgā.

जो मूर्ख विवेक के अभिमान में ऐसा करते हैं, वे कल्प भर नरक में पड़ते हैं। भला जीव ईश्वर के समान कैसे हो सकता है?
If foolish men, proud of their discernment, copy them, they fall into hell for a whole age. Can a living soul be equal to the Lord?
