सती का देह-त्याग
Satī tells the sages that those who spoke or heard slander of Śaṅkara will soon get their reward, and her father will regret it. She says the rule is that if one hears slander of a saint, of Śambhu or of Śrīpati, one should cut out the tongue of the slanderer or cover the ears and leave. Śiva is the soul of the world and a friend to all, and her wicked-minded father speaks ill of him; this body has come from Dakṣa, so she will give it up. Calling Śiva to mind, she burns her body in the fire of yoga, and a great cry rises over the whole sacrifice. Śiva's attendants begin to spoil the sacrifice, and the sage Bhṛgu protects it.सती सभा के मुनियों से कहती हैं कि जिन्होंने शंकर की निन्दा कही या सुनी, वे सब तुरन्त उसका फल पाएँगे और पिता भी पछताएगा। मर्यादा यह है कि संत, शम्भु या विष्णु की निन्दा जहाँ सुनी जाए, वहाँ निन्दक की जीभ काट ली जाए, नहीं तो कान बन्द करके वहाँ से चल देना चाहिए। शिव जगत् की आत्मा और सबके हितकारी हैं; मन्दबुद्धि पिता उनकी निन्दा करता है और यह देह दक्ष से ही उत्पन्न है। इसलिए सती उसे तुरन्त त्यागने का निश्चय करती हैं। चन्द्रमौलि वृषकेतु शिव को हृदय में धरकर वे योगाग्नि से शरीर जला देती हैं, और सारे यज्ञ में हाहाकार मच जाता है। सती की मृत्यु सुनकर शिव के गण यज्ञ बिगाड़ने लगे और भृगु मुनि ने उसकी रक्षा की।

'हे सभा के सब मुनियो, सुनो: जिन्होंने शंकर की निन्दा की या सुनी, वे सब तुरन्त उसका फल पाएँगे, और मेरे पिता भी भली-भाँति पछताएँगे।
'Listen, all you assembled sages: those who spoke or heard slander of Śaṅkara will all get the fruit of it very soon, and my father too will bitterly regret it.

जहाँ संत, शम्भु या लक्ष्मीपति की निन्दा सुनी जाए, वहाँ की मर्यादा यह है कि निन्दा करने वाले की जीभ काट ली जाए, नहीं तो कान बन्द करके वहाँ से भाग चलना चाहिए।
Wherever slander of a saint, of Śambhu or of Śrīpati is heard, the rule is this: cut out the tongue of the one who speaks it, or else cover your ears and go away.

३3जगदातमा महेसु पुरारी। जगत जनक सब के हितकारी ॥पिता मंदमति निंदत तेही। दच्छ सुक्र संभव यह देही ॥

महेश्वर त्रिपुरारि जगत् की आत्मा हैं, जगत् के पिता हैं, सबके हितकारी हैं। मेरा मूर्ख पिता उनकी निन्दा करता है, और मेरा यह शरीर दक्ष से ही उत्पन्न है।
Maheśa, the destroyer of Tripura, is the soul of the world, the father of the world and a friend to all. My foolish father speaks ill of him, and this body of mine was born from Dakṣa.

इसलिए मैं इस देह को तुरन्त त्याग दूँगी।' चन्द्रमा को मस्तक पर धारण करने वाले वृषभ-ध्वज शिव को हृदय में रखकर सती ने यह कहा और योगाग्नि में शरीर जला दिया। सारे यज्ञ में हाहाकार मच गया।
So I will give up this body at once.' Keeping in her heart the moon-crowned Lord, whose banner is the bull, Satī said this and burned her body in the fire of yoga. A cry of woe rose over the whole sacrifice.

सती की मृत्यु सुनकर शम्भु के गण यज्ञ को नष्ट करने लगे। यज्ञ का विध्वंस देखकर मुनीश्वर भृगु ने उसकी रक्षा की।
Hearing of Satī's death, Śambhu's attendants began to spoil the sacrifice. Seeing the sacrifice being destroyed, the sage Bhṛgu protected it.
