सती का अपमान और क्रोध
When Bhavānī reaches her father's house, out of fear of Dakṣa nobody welcomes her; only her mother and sisters greet her. Dakṣa does not even ask how she is, and burns at the sight of her. Satī goes to the sacrifice and sees no share set aside for Śiva. Then she remembers what Śiva had told her, and feels his insult burn in her heart; no earlier grief was like this one. Of all the world's hard sorrows, she thinks, insult is the worst. Her mother tries to calm her, but she cannot bear Śiva's insult, and speaks in anger to the whole assembly.जब भवानी पिता के घर पहुँचीं तो दक्ष के भय से किसी ने उनका सम्मान नहीं किया; केवल माता आदर से मिलीं और बहनें मुस्कराती हुई मिलीं। दक्ष ने कुशल तक नहीं पूछी, सती को देखकर उसका सारा शरीर जल उठा। सती ने यज्ञ देखा तो कहीं शिव का भाग नहीं दिखा। तब शिव की कही बात याद आई और प्रभु का अपमान समझकर हृदय जल उठा। पहले का कोई दुःख ऐसा न था। संसार के कठिन दुःखों में अपमान सबसे कठिन है। माता ने बहुत समझाया, पर शिव का अपमान वे सह न सकीं और पूरी सभा से क्रोध में बोलीं।

जब भवानी पिता के घर गईं तो दक्ष के डर से किसी ने उनका सम्मान नहीं किया। केवल एक माता आदर से मिलीं, और बहनें बहुत मुस्कराती हुई मिलीं।
When Bhavānī went to her father's house, out of fear of Dakṣa no one welcomed her. Only her mother met her with respect, and her sisters met her smiling much.

२2दच्छ न कछु पूछी कुसलाता। सतिहि बिलोकि जरे सब गाता ॥सतीं जाइ देखेउ तब जागा। कतहुँ न दीख संभु कर भागा ॥

दक्ष ने कुशल तक नहीं पूछी। सती को देखकर उसका सारा शरीर जल उठा। सती ने जाकर यज्ञ देखा, पर कहीं भी शम्भु का भाग नहीं दिखा।
Dakṣa did not ask a word about her welfare. Seeing Satī, he burned in all his limbs. Satī then went and saw the sacrifice, but nowhere did she see Śambhu's share.

३3तब चित चढ़ेउ जो संकर कहेऊ। प्रभु अपमानु समुझि उर दहेऊ ॥पाछिल दुखु न हृदयँ अस ब्यापा। जस यह भयउ महा परितापा ॥
taba cita caṛheu jo saṃkara kaheū prabhu apamānu samujhi ura daheū |pāchila dukhu na hṛdayam̐ asa byāpā jasa yaha bhayau mahā paritāpā ||

तब उन्हें शंकर की कही बात याद आई, और प्रभु का अपमान समझकर उनका हृदय जल उठा। पहले का दुःख उनके हृदय में ऐसा नहीं लगा था जैसा यह बड़ा संताप लगा।
Then she remembered what Śaṅkara had said, and feeling her Lord's insult, her heart burned. The sorrow before did not weigh on her heart as this great torment did.

४4जद्यपि जग दारुन दुख नाना। सब तें कठिन जाति अवमाना ॥समुझि सो सतिहि भयउ अति क्रोधा। बहु बिधि जननीं कीन्ह प्रबोधा ॥
jadyapi jaga dāruna dukha nānā saba teṃ kaṭhina jāti avamānā |samujhi so satihi bhayau ati krodhā bahu bidhi jananīṃ kīnha prabodhā ||

यद्यपि संसार में अनेक कठोर दुःख हैं, सबसे कठिन अपमान है। यह समझकर सती को बड़ा क्रोध हुआ। माता ने अनेक प्रकार से उन्हें समझाया।
Though the world has many hard sorrows, the hardest of all is insult. Realising this, Satī was filled with great anger. Her mother tried in many ways to calm her.

दोहा ६३दोहा 63सिव अपमानु न जाइ सहि हृदयँ न होइ प्रबोध।सकल सभहि हठि हटकि तब बोलीं बचन सक्रोध ॥ ६३ ॥

सती से शिव का अपमान सहा नहीं गया और उनके हृदय को शान्ति नहीं मिली। उन्होंने हठपूर्वक सारी सभा को चुप कराया और क्रोध भरे वचन बोलीं।
Satī could not bear Śiva's insult, and she could not be calmed at heart. She forced the whole assembly to be silent, and then spoke angry words.
