Chapter 346 · The mothers go to welcome · Verses 1–

All the mothers are so overcome with joy that their feet will not move and their limbs are weak. In great love and longing to see Rāma, they begin to prepare for the welcome. Sumitrā arranges the music and joyful auspicious things: turmeric, dūrvā grass, curd, leaves, flowers, betel and nut, root of blessings; unbroken rice, sprouts, lotus seeds and puffed rice, and lovely sprigs of basil. Gold pots, plastered and naturally lovely, look like nests that Kāma's birds have made. The omens and scents cannot be told; all the queens arrange all things of good luck. They make lamps of many kinds and sing lovely auspicious songs. With gold plates full of blessings in their lotus hands, the mothers set out glad to welcome them, their bodies thrilled and sprouting with joy.
