Chapter 341·Janaka's praise of Rāma·Verses 1–
Janaka bows his head to the company of sages and receives blessings from all. He then lovingly embraces his sons-in-law, all four treasures of beauty, goodness and virtue. With folded lotus hands he speaks words born of love: 'Rāma, how shall I praise you, swan in the lake of the minds of sages and Maheśa? The one for whom yogis practise yoga, giving up anger, delusion, pride and possessiveness — the all-pervading Brahman, unseen and undying, being, knowing, bliss, without qualities yet a store of them — whom the mind and speech with all their guesses cannot grasp, whose greatness the Veda tells with 'not this, not this', who stays the same in all three times — has come before my eyes, the root of all joy. Whatever gain there is for any being in the world, comes when the Lord is favourable.'
