The poet will tell, in a strange pattern of tale, how Bhavānī asked and how Śaṅkara explained. Those who have not heard this tale before should not be surprised; wise men who hear marvellous stories do not wonder, knowing there is no limit to Rāma's story. Rāma has come down in many forms and there are countless Rāmāyaṇas, a hundred crores of them. In different ages sages have sung Hari's lovely deeds in many ways. Let no one doubt this, but listen to the story with love for Sarasvatī. The dohā says that Rāma is endless, his qualities endless and the telling of his story wide; those of clean thought will not wonder.कवि बताता है कि भवानी ने जिस प्रकार प्रश्न किया और शंकर ने जिस प्रकार समझाकर कहा, वह सब कारण सहित, विचित्र कथा-प्रबन्ध बनाकर कहेगा। जिसने यह कथा पहले नहीं सुनी, वह सुनकर आश्चर्य न करे। जो ज्ञानी अलौकिक कथा सुनते हैं, वे ऐसा जानकर आश्चर्य नहीं करते कि राम की कथा की कोई सीमा जगत् में नहीं। राम के अनेक अवतार हुए हैं और रामायण करोड़ों और अपार हैं। कल्प-भेद से हरि के सुहावने चरित्र मुनीश्वरों ने अनेक प्रकार से गाए हैं। ऐसा हृदय में लाकर संशय न करो, और सरस्वती का प्रेम मानकर कथा सुनो। दोहे में है कि राम अनन्त हैं, उनके गुण अनन्त हैं और कथा का विस्तार अपार है; जिनका विचार निर्मल है, वे सुनकर आश्चर्य नहीं मानेंगे।

जिस प्रकार भवानी ने प्रश्न किए और जिस प्रकार शंकर ने समझाकर कहा, वह सब कारण सहित मैं विचित्र कथा-प्रबन्ध बनाकर गाऊँगा।
As Bhavānī put her questions, and as Śaṅkara explained and answered, I will tell all of that, with its reasons, making the tale into a strange pattern.

२2जेहि यह कथा सुनी नहिं होई। जनि आचरजु करैं सुनि सोई ॥कथा अलौकिक सुनहिं जे ग्यानी। नहिं आचरजु करहिं अस जानी ॥

जिसने यह कथा पहले नहीं सुनी, वह इसे सुनकर आश्चर्य न करे। जो ज्ञानी अलौकिक कथा सुनते हैं, वे ऐसा जानकर आश्चर्य नहीं करते।
Anyone who has not heard this story before should not be surprised on hearing it. The wise who hear marvellous stories do not wonder, knowing this.

३3रामकथा कै मिति जग नाहीं। असि प्रतीति तिन्ह के मन माहीं ॥नाना भाँति राम अवतारा। रामायन सत कोटि अपारा ॥

जगत् में राम की कथा की कोई सीमा नहीं है। ऐसी प्रतीति उनके मन में रहती है। राम के अनेक अवतार हुए हैं, और रामायण सौ करोड़ हैं, अपार।
There is no limit to Rāma's story in the world. That trust is in their minds. Rāma has come down in many forms, and there are a hundred crores of Rāmāyaṇas without end.

४4कलपभेद हरिचरित सुहाए। भाँति अनेक मुनीसन्ह गाए ॥करिअ न संसय अस उर आनी। सुनिअ कथा सारद रति मानी ॥

कल्प-भेद के अनुसार मुनीश्वरों ने हरि के सुहावने चरित अनेक प्रकार से गाए हैं। ऐसा मन में लाकर संशय न करो और सरस्वती के प्रेम के साथ कथा सुनो।
Through the differences between ages, sages have sung Hari's lovely deeds in many ways. Do not hold a doubt, thinking so; hear the story with respect and love for Sarasvatī.

राम अनन्त हैं, उनके गुण अनन्त हैं और कथा का विस्तार अपार है। जिनका विचार निर्मल है, वे सुनकर आश्चर्य नहीं मानेंगे।
Rāma is endless, his qualities are endless, and the spread of his story is boundless. Those whose thought is clean will hear it and not be surprised.
