A feast of many kinds is prepared and Janaka sends word to the guests. Cloths are spread as a path, and Daśaratha goes with his sons. Janaka respectfully washes everyone's feet and seats them on low stools in due order. He washes the feet of the lord of Avadh with a gentleness and love that cannot be told. Then he washes Rāma's lotus feet, which Śiva keeps hidden in his heart-lotus, and, seeing the other three brothers as equal to Rāma, washes their feet with his own hands. The king gives all fitting seats and calls the cooks. Leaf-plates with gold pins and jewelled pegs are laid. In a moment skilful, humble servers lay out fine, tasty, pure foods with rice, ghee and dal.फिर अनेक प्रकार का भोज हुआ; जनक ने बरातियों को बुलवा भेजा। पाँवड़े और अनुपम वस्त्र बिछते जाते हैं, राजा दशरथ पुत्रों सहित चले। जनक ने आदर से सबके पैर धोए और योग्य पीढ़ों पर बैठाया। उन्होंने अवधपति के चरण धोए; उनका शील और स्नेह कहा नहीं जा सकता। फिर राम के चरण-कमल धोए, जिन्हें शिव ने हृदय-कमल में छिपा रखा है। तीनों भाइयों को राम के समान जानकर जनक ने अपने हाथ से उनके भी चरण धोए। राजा ने सबको उचित आसन दिए और रसोइयों को बुला लिया। आदर से पत्तलें लगने लगीं, जिनमें सोने की कीलें और मणि जड़े पत्ते सजे थे। चतुर और विनम्र परोसने वाले क्षण भर में सबके आगे दाल-भात, घी और सुन्दर, स्वादिष्ट, पवित्र भोजन परोस गए।
