Chapter 289·The wedding hall and the city adorned·Verses 1–
Lovely festoons were made, as if they were nooses laid by Love. Many auspicious pots were made, and flags, banners, cloths and whisks. Many jewelled lamps shone, and the wondrous canopy cannot be described. What poet has the wit to describe the pavilion where the bride is Vaidehī? The bridegroom is Rāma, ocean of form and virtue, and that canopy shone through the three worlds. As lovely as Janaka's palace was, so was every house in the city. Whoever saw Tirhut then found the fourteen worlds small. The wealth that shone even in low houses bewildered Indra himself. Sarasvatī and Śeṣa hesitate to tell the beauty of the city where Lakṣmī lives in the form of a lovely woman.
