The vines were made all of green gems, so straight and jointed that they could not be told from real ones. Golden betel-vines were made so lifelike that real leaves could not be told from them. Knots were made of these with pearl strings hung between, and rubies, emeralds, diamonds and turquoise were cut and set as lotuses. Bees of many colours and birds were made, humming and cooing as the wind touched them. Images of gods were carved on the pillars, standing with auspicious things in their hands. Lovely squares were drawn in many ways, and elephants of gems were naturally charming. Sweet-scented sprigs of sapphire were cut, and golden blossoms and emerald clusters shone on silk strings.
