Chapter 284·The bow goes by itself·Verses 1–
Rāma says gods, demons, kings and many warriors, equal or stronger, if any challenges him in battle he will gladly fight, even if it were Death. One who takes a warrior's body and shrinks from battle is a base wretch and stains his family. He says truthfully, not praising his own line, that the Raghus fear not even Death in battle. Such is the greatness of the Brahmin line that whoever fears him becomes fearless. Hearing Raghupati's soft, deep words, the veil lifted from Paraśurāma's mind. He told Rāma to take the bow of Rāma's Lord, Ramāpati, and draw it to end his doubt. As he was giving it, the bow went by itself, and Paraśurāma was astonished. Knowing Rāma's power, he thrilled, his body blossoming, and spoke with folded hands, his heart not able to hold its love.
