सेवक की प्रीति
In love or in bad temper, in anger or in sloth, the name brings good on all ten sides. Remembering that name, the poet bows to Raghunātha and tells Rāma's story. The Lord, by whose mercy mercy never has its fill, will set right his poor verse in every way. Rāma is a good master and he a bad servant, and yet the Lord of mercy looked to his own side and has kept him. A good master in the world and the Vedas hears a plea and knows love. Rich and poor, villager and townsman, learned and dull, dirty and noble, poet and bad poet, each according to his own wit; all men and women praise the king. Good, wise, gentle kings are born of the Lord's part and are kind. They hear and honour all in good speech, knowing the manner of verse, devotion, bowing and way. This is the way of common kings, and the Lord of Kosala is the crown of all knowers. Rāma is pleased by pure love: who in the world is lower and dirtier in mind than I? In the dohās: the kind Rāma will keep the love and taste of his rogue servant, who made the monkeys and bears with their wise minister make rocks into boats; and Tulasīdāsa, though all call him Rāma's, who bears ridicule, has such a master as Sītā's husband.प्रेम से या कुभाव से, क्रोध से या आलस्य से, नाम जपने पर दसों दिशाओं में मंगल होता है। उसी नाम का स्मरण करके कवि रघुनाथ को माथा नवाकर राम के गुणों की कथा कहता है। जिनकी कृपा से कृपा कभी तृप्त नहीं होती, वे मेरी रचना को सब भाँति सुधार देंगे। राम सुस्वामी हैं और मैं कुसेवक, फिर भी दयानिधि ने अपनी ओर देखकर मुझे पोसा। लोक और वेद में सुस्वामी की रीति है कि वे विनती सुनते और प्रीति पहचानते हैं। धनी और गरीब, ग्रामीण और नागर, पंडित और मूर्ख, मलिन और उजले, सुकवि और कुकवि, सब अपनी बुद्धि के अनुसार राजा की सराहना करते हैं। साधु, सुजान, सुशील राजा ईश्वर के अंश से जन्मे परम कृपालु होते हैं। वे सबकी सुन्दर वाणी सुनकर सबका सम्मान करते हैं, कविता, भक्ति, नम्रता और गति को पहचानकर। यह साधारण राजाओं का स्वभाव है, और कोसलराज तो सब जानने वालों के शिरोमणि हैं। राम सच्चे स्नेह पर रीझते हैं: जगत् में मुझसे नीच और मलिन बुद्धि वाला कौन है? दोहों में है कि कृपालु राम दुष्ट सेवक की प्रीति और रुचि रखेंगे, जिन्होंने बुद्धिमान मंत्री सहित वानर-भालुओं से पत्थरों की नाव बनवाई; और तुलसीदास को सब राम का कहते हैं और वह उपहास सहता है, ऐसे स्वामी सीतानाथ उसके हैं।

जिनकी कृपा से कृपा कभी तृप्त नहीं होती, वे मेरी रचना को सब भाँति सुधार देंगे। राम सुस्वामी हैं और मैं कुसेवक, फिर भी दयानिधि ने अपनी ओर देखकर मुझे पाला है।
He, by whose grace even grace is never full, will set right my verse in every way. Rāma is a good master and I a bad servant, yet the ocean of mercy looked to his own side and has kept me.

सुकवि और कुकवि, सब अपनी बुद्धि के अनुसार, सब स्त्री-पुरुष राजा की सराहना करते हैं। साधु, सुजान और सुशील राजा ईश्वर के अंश से जन्मे हैं और परम कृपालु होते हैं।
good poet and bad poet, each according to his own wit, all men and women praise the king. Kings who are good, wise and gentle are born of a part of the Lord, and they are very kind.

वे कविता, भक्ति, नम्रता और गति को पहचानकर सबकी सुन्दर वाणी सुनते हैं और सबका सम्मान करते हैं। यह साधारण राजाओं का स्वभाव है, पर कोसलराज तो सब जानने वालों के शिरोमणि जाने जाते हैं।
They hear and honour all in fine words, knowing the manner of verse, devotion, humility and way. This is the way of common kings, but the Lord of Kosala is known as the crown of all who know.
