गुर रिनु रहा सोचु बड़ जीकें
Lakṣmaṇa says the sage's gentleness is known to the world: he has well repaid his debt to his parents, and only the debt to his guru weighs on his mind. It seems it has been put on Lakṣmaṇa's head; many days have passed and the interest has grown. Let him bring a moneylender and he will open his purse and pay at once. Hearing these bitter words, Paraśurāma raised his axe and the whole assembly cried, 'Alas, alas!' The sage said, 'You show me the axe? Brahmin that I am, I spare you, enemy of kings. You have never met fierce warriors in battle; you have grown great at home among the Brahmins and gods.' Everyone cried out that this was improper, and Raghupati signed to Lakṣmaṇa to stop. Lakṣmaṇa's answer was like an offering of ghee to the fire of Bhṛgu's rage; seeing it grow, the sun of the Raghus spoke words like water.लक्ष्मण ने कहा: हे मुनि, आपका शील कौन नहीं जानता, वह संसार में प्रसिद्ध है। आप माता-पिता के ऋण से तो अच्छी तरह उऋण हो गए, अब गुरु का ऋण रह गया है, जिसकी आपके मन में बड़ी चिंता है। वह मानो हमारे ही माथे पर निकाला गया है; दिन बहुत बीत गए, ब्याज बहुत बढ़ गया। अब किसी महाजन को बुला लाइए, मैं तुरंत थैली खोलकर दे दूँगा। ये कड़वे वचन सुनकर परशुराम ने कुल्हाड़ा सँभाला और सारी सभा हाय-हाय पुकार उठी। मुनि ने कहा: हे भृगुश्रेष्ठ, मुझे कुल्हाड़ा दिखाते हो? राजाओं के द्रोही, ब्राह्मण जानकर बचा रहा हूँ। तुम्हें युद्ध में कभी कठोर सुभट नहीं मिले, ब्राह्मण और देवता घर में ही बड़े हो गए हो। सब लोगों ने कहा कि यह अनुचित है, और रघुपति ने इशारे से लक्ष्मण को रोक दिया। लक्ष्मण का उत्तर आहुति के समान था, जिससे भृगुश्रेष्ठ का क्रोध रूपी अग्नि बढ़ने लगा; उसे बढ़ता देखकर रघुकुल के सूर्य ने जल के समान शीतल वचन कहे।

लक्ष्मण ने कहा, 'हे मुनि, आपका शील कौन नहीं जानता? वह संसार में प्रसिद्ध है। आप माता-पिता के ऋण से तो अच्छी तरह उऋण हो गए, अब गुरु का ऋण रह गया है, जिसकी आपके मन में बड़ी चिंता है।
Lakṣmaṇa said, 'Sage, who does not know your gentleness? It is known to the whole world. You have repaid your parents' debt well; the debt to your guru remained, and it weighs greatly on your mind.

२2सो जनु हमरेहि माथे काढ़ा। दिन चलि गए ब्याज बड़ बाढ़ा ॥अब आनिअ ब्यवहरिआ बोली। तुरत देउँ मैं थैली खोली ॥

वह मानो हमारे ही माथे पर निकाला गया है; दिन बहुत बीत गए और ब्याज बहुत बढ़ गया। अब किसी महाजन को बुला लाइए, मैं तुरंत थैली खोलकर दे दूँगा।'
That seems to have been drawn out onto our head; many days have passed and the interest has grown large. Now bring a moneylender, and I will open my purse and pay at once.'

ये कड़वे वचन सुनकर उन्होंने कुल्हाड़ा सँभाला और सारी सभा हाय-हाय पुकार उठी। 'हे भृगुश्रेष्ठ, मुझे कुल्हाड़ा दिखाते हो? हे राजाओं के द्रोही, ब्राह्मण समझकर बचा रहा हूँ।
Hearing these bitter words he raised his axe, and the whole assembly cried 'Alas, alas!' 'Bhṛgu's best, you show me the axe? Thinking you a Brahmin, I spare you, enemy of kings.

४4मिले न कबहुँ सुभट रन गाढ़े। द्विज देवता घरहि के बाढ़े ॥अनुचित कहि सब लोग पुकारे। रघुपति सयनहिं लखनु नेवारे ॥
