Chapter 272·Paraśurāma shows his axe·Verses 1–
Lakṣmaṇa says that as he sees it all bows are alike, and nothing is lost in breaking an old one; Rāma only touched it and it broke. He asks why the sage is angry for no reason. Paraśurāma looks at his axe and says the fool has not heard of him. He does not kill him only because he is a boy, and the boy takes him for a mere sage; but he is a lifelong celibate, quick to anger, known to the world as the enemy of the warrior clans. With his arm-strength he rid the earth of kings and many times gave it to Brahmins; his axe cut off Sahasrabāhu's arms. He tells the prince not to bring grief to his parents, for his axe is terrible and cuts the unborn child in the womb.
