The good kings say that a crow wants Garuḍa's share, a hare the portion of the serpent's enemy, a man full of causeless anger wants well-being, and an enemy of Śiva wants every wealth. A greedy, covetous man wants fame and a lecher a spotless name; one who turns from Hari's feet wants the highest state; such is the kings' longing. Hearing the din, Sītā was alarmed and her friends took her to the queen. Rāma went naturally to the guru, telling Sītā's love in his heart. Sītā and the queens were worried at what Brahmā would do. Hearing the kings, Lakṣmaṇa looked this way and that, but could not speak for fear of Rāma. His eyes were red and his brows curled as he looked at the kings in anger, like a young lion eyeing a herd of rutting elephants.भले राजा कहते हैं: जैसे कौआ गरुड़ का भाग चाहे, खरगोश साँपों के शत्रु (सिंह) का भाग चाहे, जैसे अकारण क्रोध करने वाला कुशल चाहे और शिव का द्रोही सब संपदा चाहे, वैसे ही तुम्हारी लालसा है। जैसे लोभी, लालची मनुष्य सुंदर कीर्ति चाहे और कामी निष्कलंकता चाहे, जैसे हरि के चरणों से विमुख परम गति चाहे, वैसा ही तुम्हारा लालच है, राजाओ। कोलाहल सुनकर सीता डर गईं और सखियाँ उन्हें वहाँ ले गईं जहाँ रानी थीं। राम सहज स्वभाव से गुरु के पास चले, मन में सीता के प्रेम का वर्णन करते हुए। रानियों सहित सीता चिंता में थीं कि अब विधाता न जाने क्या करेंगे। राजाओं की बातें सुनकर लक्ष्मण इधर-उधर देखते हैं, पर राम के डर से बोल नहीं पाते। उनकी आँखें लाल और भौंहें टेढ़ी थीं; वे राजाओं को क्रोध से देखते थे, जैसे मत्त हाथियों के झुंड को देखकर सिंह का बच्चा चोप में हो।

Hearing the uproar, Sītā was alarmed and her friends took her to where the queen was. Rāma naturally went toward the guru, telling over Sītā's love in his mind.
