Chapter 266·The wicked kings rage; the good kings answer·Verses 1–
Seeing Sītā, some wicked, foolish kings were seized by desire and anger. They rose, put on armour and began to boast. Some said, take Sītā by force and bind both boys; the bow being broken is no matter, for while they lived no one would marry the girl. If Videha helped, they would fight and win over both brothers. The good kings answered that the assembly was shamed. They said their strength, prowess and boasting had gone to heaven with the bow, and asked whether this was the bravery they now showed; with such sense Brahmā had blackened their faces. They told them to look at Rāma with full eyes, give up envy, pride and anger, and not become moths to the fierce fire of Lakṣmaṇa's wrath.

Someone said, 'Free Sītā by force and seize and bind both princes. Even with the bow broken our purpose is not served; while we live, who will marry the girl?'
