When Lakṣmaṇa spoke in anger, the earth shook and the elephants of the directions swayed; all the worlds and kings were afraid. Sītā was glad in her heart and Janaka felt abashed. The guru, Raghupati and all the sages were pleased in their hearts and thrilled again and again. Raghupati signed to Lakṣmaṇa to stop and seated him lovingly near him. Viśvāmitra, seeing the right time, spoke in very loving words: 'Rise, Rāma, break Śiva's bow and end Janaka's grief.' Hearing the guru's words, Rāma bowed at his feet, feeling neither joy nor sorrow, and stood up with natural grace. His bearing put a young lion to shame. On the platform he was like the young sun rising on the mountain of dawn; the saints opened like lotuses and eyes were like bees that rejoiced.
