Seeing Rāma's form and Sītā's beauty, men and women forgot to blink. Anxious, and afraid to speak, they prayed within to Brahmā to take away Janaka's folly and make him give up his vow without thinking, and marry Sītā to Rāma. They said the world would call it good, while clinging to a stubborn vow would only bring grief at the end. All were lost in this wish, that the dark bridegroom be fit for Jānakī. Then Janaka called the bards, who came reciting praises. He told them to go and announce his vow, and they went off gladly to proclaim it.राम का रूप और सीता की छवि देखकर स्त्री-पुरुषों ने पलक झपकना भी छोड़ दिया। सब चिंता में थे, कहने में संकोच करते थे, मन ही मन ब्रह्मा से विनती करते थे कि वे जनक की जड़ता जल्दी हर लें और उन्हें ऐसी सुंदर बुद्धि दें कि वे बिना सोचे अपना प्रण छोड़कर सीता का विवाह राम से कर दें। वे कहते थे कि जगत सबको भला कहेगा, पर हठ करने से अंत में हृदय में जलन ही होगी। सब लोग इसी लालसा में मग्न थे कि साँवला वर जानकी के योग्य है। तब जनक ने बंदीजनों को बुलाया; वे विरुदावली कहते हुए आए। राजा ने कहा कि जाकर मेरा प्रण सुनाओ, और बंदी मन में बहुत हर्ष लिए चले।

'जगत सबको भला कहेगा और सबको भाएगा; हठ करने से अंत में हृदय में जलन ही होगी।' इसी लालसा में सब लोग मग्न थे कि साँवला वर जानकी के योग्य है।

४4तब बंदीजन जनक बौलाए। बिरिदावली कहत चलि आए ॥कह नृप जाइ कहहु पन मोरा। चले भाट हियँ हरषु न थोरा ॥

तब जनक ने बंदीजनों को बुलाया; वे विरुदावली कहते हुए चले आए। राजा ने कहा, 'जाकर मेरा प्रण सुनाओ।' भाट चले, उनके हृदय में थोड़ा हर्ष न था।
Then Janaka called the bards, who came reciting his praises. The king said, 'Go and announce my vow.' The bards went with no small joy in their hearts.

बंदी श्रेष्ठ वचन बोले: 'हे सब राजाओ, सुनो। हम अपनी लंबी भुजाएँ उठाकर विदेह का प्रण सुनाते हैं।'
