जोगु जानकिहि यह बरु अहई

Seeing Rāma's beauty, one woman says he is a fit bridegroom for Jānakī, and that if the king saw him he would give up his vow and insist on the marriage. Another says the king has recognised the brothers and honoured them, but will not give up his vow and by fate's power stubbornly clings to it. Another says that if the Creator gives each the fitting fruit, Jānakī will get this very husband, without doubt. If it comes about, everyone will be fulfilled, and their own longing is so great that perhaps the brothers will visit them because of the connection. Otherwise, they say, seeing them is far off; such a meeting happens only with much merit from past lives. राम की छवि देखकर कोई एक कहती है कि यह वर जानकी के योग्य है। सखी, यदि राजा इन्हें देख लें तो प्रतिज्ञा छोड़कर हठ से इन्हीं से विवाह कर दें। कोई कहती है कि राजा ने इन्हें पहचाना है और मुनि सहित इनका आदर से सम्मान किया है; पर सखी, राजा अपना प्रण नहीं छोड़ेंगे, विधि के वश होकर हठ से अविवेक को ही भजते हैं। कोई कहती है कि यदि विधाता भला है और सुना जाता है कि वह सबको उचित फल देता है, तो जानकी को यही वर मिलेगा; सखी, इसमें संदेह नहीं। यदि विधि के वश ऐसा संयोग बन जाए तो सब लोग कृतकृत्य हो जाएँ। सखी, हमारी इतनी अधिक आर्ति है कि शायद इसी नाते ये कभी यहाँ आ जाएँ। नहीं तो, सखी सुनो, इनका दर्शन हमारे लिए दूर है; ऐसा संयोग तभी होता है जब पूर्वजन्म का बहुत पुण्य हो।
