पुत्रकाम सुभ जग्य

One day the king is grieved that he has no son, and goes to his guru Vasiṣṭha, falls at his feet and tells him all his sorrow. Vasiṣṭha comforts him and promises four sons, famous in the three worlds, who will remove their devotees' fear. He calls the sage Śṛṅgī and has a sacrifice for the wish of a son performed. Agni appears with a dish of sacred food in his hand and tells the king to divide it among his queens, each in due share, then vanishes. The king is lost in joy. एक बार राजा के मन में खेद हुआ कि मेरे पुत्र नहीं है। वे तुरंत गुरु वसिष्ठ के घर गए, चरणों में गिरकर बड़ी विनती की और अपना सब दुख-सुख सुनाया। वसिष्ठ ने बहुत प्रकार से समझाया कि धीरज रखो, तुम्हारे चार पुत्र होंगे, जो तीनों लोकों में प्रसिद्ध और भक्तों का भय हरने वाले होंगे। उन्होंने शृंगी ऋषि को बुलाकर पुत्रकामेष्टि यज्ञ करवाया। अग्नि चरु हाथ में लिए प्रकट हुए और राजा से कहा कि इसे रानियों में यथायोग्य भाग करके बाँट दो, फिर वे अदृश्य हो गए। राजा परमानंद में मग्न हो गए।
