Chapter 174·A curse that cannot be undone·Verses 1–
'Fool of a warrior, you called us brahmins and tried to ruin us! God has kept our dharma safe; you and your family will fall. Within a year you will be destroyed and not one of your family will be left to offer you water.' Hearing the curse, the king was shaken with fear, and a voice came again from the sky: 'Brahmins, you gave a curse without thinking. The king did no wrong.' The brahmins, amazed, heard the voice from the sky, and the king went to where the food was. There was no food there and no cook. The king went back in great distress and told the brahmins the whole story; frightened, he fell to the ground in agony. The poet says: 'King, what is fated does not go away, though there is no fault of yours. The brahmins' curse is very terrible and cannot be undone.''
