'As you order, lord,' said the king, and tied his horse to a tree and sat. He praised the sage in many ways, bowing at his feet, and thought himself fortunate. Then he spoke in a gracious voice: 'Knowing you as my father, I take the liberty; thinking me the son and servant of a sage, tell me your name, Lord.' The king did not know him, but he knew the king. The king was a friend of good will; he was a clever fraud. Enemy, warrior and king, he wanted to get his own work done by trick and force. Seeing the rival's happiness in kingship, his heart burned like a kiln. Hearing the king's simple words, he remembered the old hatred and was glad. Dipping his speech in deceit, he spoke softly and craftily: 'My name is Beggar. Now I am poor and have no home.''
