Chapter 159·A night at the hermitage·Verses 1–
All his tiredness gone, the king felt well, and the ascetic took him to his own hermitage. At sunset he gave him a seat and then spoke gently: 'Who are you? Why are you wandering alone in the forest, a handsome young man who cares nothing for his life? The marks on you are those of an emperor; seeing you, I feel great pity.' The king said, 'Lord of sages, hear: I am the minister of the king named Pratāpabhānu. Hunting, I lost my way, and it is great good fortune that I have come to your feet. For us a sight of you is hard to find; I think something good will come.' The sage said, 'Dear one, it has grown dark; your city is seventy yojanas away. The night is deep and the forest dense; you cannot see the road, listen. Stay here tonight, knowing this, and go when it is morning.' The poet adds: as destiny is, so help is found; either it comes to a man, or it takes him there.

All his tiredness gone, the king was happy, and the ascetic took him to his own hermitage. Knowing the sun had set, he gave him a seat, and then spoke in a gentle voice:

Tulasī says: as destiny is, so help is found. Either it comes of itself to the man, or it takes him there.
