With the king's strength the earth became a pleasing wish-cow. His people were happy and free of every sorrow, and the men and women were good and dharma-minded. His minister Dharmaruci, who loved Hari's feet, taught the king good policy for his welfare. The king always served teachers, gods, saints, ancestors and brahmins. Whatever duties of a king the Vedas lay down, he did them all gladly with respect. Every day he gave gifts in many ways, hearing the best scriptures, Vedas and Purāṇas. He made many step-wells, wells, tanks, flower-gardens and lovely parks, and brahmins' houses and temples built with care at all the holy places. Whatever sacrifices the Purāṇas and Vedas name, he performed each of them thousands of times with love.
