Hearing these gentle, deep and lovely words, the Lord of mercy said softly, 'Whatever is in your heart I have given; there is no doubt. Mother, by my grace your wisdom will never be lost.' Bowing at his feet, Manu spoke once more: 'Lord, one more prayer of mine. Let me have love for your feet even for the son's sake; let anyone call me a great fool for it. As a snake without its jewel and a fish without water, so is my life tied to you.' Asking this boon, he held the Lord's feet. The Lord of mercy said, 'So be it. Now follow my order and go and live in the capital of the lord of the gods. Enjoy great pleasures there for a while, dear one, and then become king in Ayodhyā; and I shall be your son.'इन कोमल, गूढ़ और सुन्दर रचना वाले वचनों को सुनकर कृपा के सागर ने कोमल वाणी में कहा, 'जो कुछ तुम्हारे मन में है, वह सब मैंने तुम्हें दे दिया, इसमें संशय नहीं। हे माता, मेरी कृपा से तुम्हारा अलौकिक ज्ञान कभी नहीं मिटेगा।' तब मनु ने चरण वन्दना करके फिर कहा, 'हे प्रभु, मेरी एक और विनती है। पुत्र के प्रति भी आपके चरणों में मेरी प्रीति हो; चाहे कोई मुझे बड़ा मूर्ख क्यों न कहे। जैसे मणि के बिना साँप और जल के बिना मछली, वैसे ही मेरा जीवन आपके अधीन हो।' ऐसा वर माँगकर वे चरण पकड़े रहे। करुणानिधि ने कहा, 'ऐसा ही हो। अब तुम मेरी आज्ञा मानकर इन्द्र की राजधानी में जाकर रहो।' 'हे तात, वहाँ कुछ समय तक बड़े भोग भोगकर फिर तुम अयोध्या के राजा होओगे, तब मैं तुम्हारा पुत्र होऊँगा।'
