Hearing the Lord's words, Manu folded his hands, took heart and said in a gentle voice, 'Lord, seeing your lotus feet, all our desires are now fulfilled. But there is one great longing in my heart, easy and hard to speak of. For you, Lord, it is very easy to give; to me, because of my own meanness, it seems out of reach. A poor man who has found the wishing tree is shy to ask for much, and does not know its power; so there is doubt in my heart. You, who live within all, know it. Fulfil my wish, my Lord.' The Lord said, 'King, put aside your shyness and ask; there is nothing I would not give you.' Manu said, 'Greatest of givers, treasure of mercy, Lord, I tell you the truth: I want a son like you.
