श्राप का फल
'You are free and have no one above you; you do whatever pleases you. You make the good bad and the bad good, and feel neither wonder nor joy in your heart. You cheat everyone and always do it without fear; you are always cheerful. No act, good or bad, binds you, and until now no one has put you right. Today you gave me a good lesson; you will get the fruit of what you did. You tricked me in the form of a woman. Take that body: this is my curse. You made my face a monkey's; monkeys will help you. You have done me a great wrong. You will be miserable for love of a woman.' The Lord took the curse on his head gladly and prayed to him many times. Then the Lord of mercy drew back his own strong illusion.'तुम परम स्वतन्त्र हो, तुम्हारे सिर पर कोई नहीं है; तुम्हारे मन को जो अच्छा लगता है वही करते हो। भले को बुरा और बुरे को भला करते हो; हृदय में न विस्मय रखते हो न हर्ष। तुमने सबको ठग-ठगकर परखा है, मन में बहुत निडर रहते हो और सदा उत्साह में रहते हो। शुभ-अशुभ कर्म तुम्हें नहीं बाँधते; अब तक किसी ने तुम्हें ठीक नहीं किया। आज तुमने अच्छा सबक दिया है; अपना किया फल पाओगे। तुमने स्त्री का रूप धरकर मुझे ठगा; वही शरीर धारण करो, यह मेरा श्राप है। तुमने मेरी आकृति वानर की बनाई, वानर ही तुम्हारी सहायता करेंगे। तुमने मेरा बड़ा अपकार किया, तुम स्त्री के विरह में दुखी होगे।' प्रभु ने श्राप को प्रसन्नता से सिर पर रखा और बहुत विनती की। तब कृपानिधि ने अपनी प्रबल माया को खींच लिया।

'तुम पूरी तरह स्वतन्त्र हो, तुम्हारे सिर पर कोई नहीं है। तुम्हारे मन को जो भाता है वही करते हो। भले को बुरा और बुरे को भला करते हो; हृदय में न विस्मय रखते हो न हर्ष।'

'तुम सबको ठग-ठगकर परखते हो, मन में बहुत निडर और सदा उत्साह में रहते हो। तुम्हें शुभ-अशुभ कर्म नहीं बाँधते। अब तक किसी ने तुम्हें ठीक नहीं किया।'
