हरि से रूप की माँग

'I will ask Hari for beauty. It will take too long to go there. There is no one like Hari for my good; let him be my helper now.' Nārada prayed to him in many ways, and the playful, merciful Lord appeared. Seeing him, the sage's eyes were cooled; he was glad, thinking the work was done. In deep distress he told his story and begged, 'Be kind and help me. Give me your own form, Lord; I cannot win her any other way. Do quickly whatever is good for me, I am your servant.' Seeing his great power of illusion, the Lord of the poor smiled inwardly and said, 'Listen, Nārada, I will do what is best for you; my word is not false.' 'मैं हरि से सुन्दरता माँगता हूँ; वहाँ जाने में बहुत देर लगेगी। मेरे हित में हरि के समान कोई नहीं, इस अवसर पर वही मेरे सहायक हों।' उन्होंने उस समय अनेक प्रकार से विनती की, और कौतुकी, कृपालु प्रभु प्रकट हो गए। प्रभु को देखकर मुनि के नेत्र शीतल हुए और वे हृदय में प्रसन्न हुए कि अब काम हो जाएगा। उन्होंने बहुत व्याकुल होकर सारी कथा सुनाई और कहा, 'कृपा करके मेरी सहायता कीजिए। हे प्रभु, मुझे अपना रूप दे दीजिए; किसी और प्रकार से मैं उसे नहीं पा सकता। हे नाथ, जिस तरह मेरा हित हो, वह जल्दी कीजिए; मैं आपका दास हूँ।' अपनी माया का भारी बल देखकर दीनों पर दया करने वाले प्रभु मन में हँसे और बोले, 'हे नारद, सुनो, जिस प्रकार तुम्हारा परम हित होगा, मैं वही करूँगा; मेरा वचन झूठा नहीं है।'
