शिव का ध्यान और राम-कथा आरम्भ
Then, Lord, tell me the truth by which sages and wise men are lost in knowledge, and tell about devotion, knowledge, wisdom and dispassion, with their differences. Tell too the many other secrets of Rāma, Lord, pure and discerning. And what I have not asked, do not keep hidden, merciful one. You are the teacher of the three worlds, the Vedas say; what can other, lowly souls know? Hearing Umā's natural and charming questions, free of guile, Śiva was pleased. All Rāma's story came to Hara's heart, his eyes brimmed with tears from the thrill of love. The form of Śrī Raghunātha came into his heart, and he felt the highest, boundless joy. For two hours he was lost in the joy of meditation, then brought his mind outside, and in gladness Maheśa began to tell the story of Raghupati.पार्वती भक्ति, ज्ञान, विज्ञान और वैराग्य का तत्त्व उनके भेदों सहित पूछती हैं और राम के और भी रहस्य जानना चाहती हैं; जो न पूछा हो वह भी न छिपाने को कहती हैं। वे कहती हैं कि आप तीनों लोकों के गुरु हैं, दूसरे जीव क्या जानें। उमा के सहज, छल-रहित प्रश्न सुनकर शिव प्रसन्न होते हैं। राम की सारी कथा उनके हृदय में आती है, आँखों में प्रेम से जल भर आता है और श्रीरघुनाथ का रूप हृदय में उतर आता है। दो घड़ी वे ध्यान-रस में मग्न रहते हैं, फिर मन बाहर लाकर प्रसन्नता से रघुपति का चरित कहने लगते हैं।

'फिर हे प्रभु, वह तत्त्व बताइए जिसके विज्ञान में मुनि और ज्ञानी मग्न रहते हैं। भक्ति, ज्ञान, विज्ञान और वैराग्य को भी उनके भेदों सहित वर्णन कीजिए।

२2औरउ राम रहस्य अनेका। कहहु नाथ अति बिमल बिबेका ॥जो प्रभु मैं पूछा नहि होई। सोउ दयाल राखहु जनि गोई ॥

३3तुम्ह त्रिभुवन गुर बेद बखाना। आन जीव पाँवर का जाना ॥प्रस्न उमा कै सहज सुहाई। छल बिहीन सुनि सिव मन भाई ॥

राम की सारी कथा हर के हृदय में आ गई; प्रेम से रोमांच हुआ और आँखों में जल भर आया। श्रीरघुनाथ का रूप हृदय में आया और उन्हें परम अपार आनन्द हुआ।
