Though a woman is not fit to ask, I am your servant in mind, deed and word. Saints do not hide even secret truth from one who comes in need. Out of great need I ask, king of the gods: tell the story of Raghupati, with kindness. First tell the reason why the formless Brahman took a form; then, Lord, tell of Rāma's birth and his noble childhood. Tell how he married Jānakī, and what fault there was in leaving his kingdom. Tell of the countless deeds he did while living in the forest, and how he killed Rāvaṇa. Then of the many sports he played while seated on the throne; tell all, Śaṅkara, the sweet joys.
