तमसा तीर निवासु
The people stand stricken, like figures painted on a wall, and the city and forest of Ayodhyā seem full of sorrowing men, beasts and birds. Kaikeyī has made herself a huntress, and has set a forest fire of grief in all ten directions. They could not bear the fire of parting from Rāma and ran off in confusion. Then they all thought: without Rāma, Lakṣmaṇa and Sītā there is no happiness; wherever Rāma is, there is our home, and without him Ayodhyā is of no use. So, firm in that counsel, they left behind their heavenly homes and followed him. Those who love his lotus feet, will pleasures hold them? The first day Rāma stayed on the bank of the Tamasā.राम के वियोग में सब व्याकुल खड़े हैं, मानो चित्र में लिखे हों। नगर सफल वन जैसा है और स्त्री-पुरुष, पशु-पक्षी उसमें भरे हैं। विधाता ने कैकेयी को किरातिनी बनाया, जिसने दसों दिशाओं में दुःसह दावानल लगा दी। वे रघुवर के विरह की आग सह न सके और व्याकुल होकर भागे। सबने मन में विचार किया कि राम, लक्ष्मण और सीता के बिना सुख नहीं; जहाँ राम हैं वहीं समाज है; रघुवीर के बिना अयोध्या में कोई काम नहीं। यह दृढ़ मंत्र कर वे देवताओं को भी दुर्लभ सुख वाले घर छोड़कर साथ चले। जिन्हें राम के चरण-कमल प्रिय हैं, क्या विषय-भोग उन्हें वश में कर सकते हैं? बालक और बूढ़ों को छोड़कर सब लोग साथ हो गए, और पहले दिन रघुनाथ ने तमसा के तीर पर निवास किया।

राम के वियोग से व्याकुल सब जहाँ-तहाँ ऐसे खड़े थे मानो चित्र में लिखे हों। नगर घना वन था और उसमें पक्षी, पशु और स्त्री-पुरुष भरे थे।
Stricken by Rāma's parting, all stood where they were, as if they had been drawn on the wall. The city was a thick forest, full of birds, beasts and people.

विधाता ने कैकेयी को किरातिनी बना दिया, जिसने दसों दिशाओं में असह्य दावानल लगा दी। वे रघुवर के वियोग की आग सह न सके और व्याकुल होकर भागे।
Fate had made Kaikeyī a huntress, who set fire to the forest in all ten directions. They could not bear the fire of Raghubar's parting, and ran off in distress.

३3सबहिं बिचार कीन्ह मन माहीं। राम लखन सिय बिनु सुखु नाहीं ॥जहाँ रामु तहँ सबुइ समाजू। बिनु रघुबीर अवध नहिं काजू ॥

सबने मन में विचार किया कि राम, लक्ष्मण और सीता के बिना सुख नहीं है। जहाँ राम हैं वहीं सारा समाज है, रघुवीर के बिना अयोध्या में कोई काम नहीं।
In their hearts they all thought: without Rāma, Lakṣmaṇa and Sītā there is no happiness. Where Rāma is, there is the whole community, and without Raghubīr Ayodhyā is of no use.

४4चले साथ अस मंत्रु दृढ़ाई। सुर दुर्लभ सुख सदन बिहाई ॥राम चरन पंकज प्रिय जिन्हही। बिषय भोग बस करहिं कि तिन्हही ॥

यह दृढ़ मंत्र करके वे देवताओं को भी दुर्लभ सुख वाले घर छोड़कर साथ चल पड़े। जिन्हें राम के चरण-कमल प्रिय हैं, क्या विषय-भोग उन्हें वश में कर सकते हैं?
With this firm counsel they set out, leaving behind homes whose comforts even gods can hardly gain. Would pleasures hold those who love the lotus feet of Rāma?

Leaving behind children and the old, all the people went with him. On the first day Raghunātha stayed on the bank of the Tamasā.
