The women who first carried the news got many gifts. Their bodies thrilled with love and they all began to set out the lucky pots. Sumitrā drew lovely jewelled squares. Rāma's mother, Kausalyā, was lost in joy and called brahmins and gave them much. She worshipped the village goddess, the gods and the nāgas, and promised to give them their share of offerings, praying them to grant whatever brings Rāma good. Women with cuckoo voices, moon faces and deer-calf eyes sang songs of blessing. Hearing of Rāma's rule and anointing, men and women were glad and began to decorate everywhere, thinking the stars were favourable.
