Lakṣmaṇa goes to Rāma, glad in heart to have his beloved company. After bowing to Rāma and Sītā he goes with them to the palace. The people of the city say among themselves how well fate had made things and how it has spoiled them. Their bodies are thin, they are in pain and their faces are dull, like bees whose honey has been taken. They wring their hands and beat their heads, like birds without wings. A great crowd fills the court, and the grief cannot be told. The minister lifts the king and seats him; Rāma comes with kind words and touches his feet.
