Shy to speak before his mother, Rāma thought of the moment and spoke: Princess, hear my advice, and do not think anything else in your heart. If you wish good for yourself and me, take my word and stay at home. Obeying my command and serving your mother-in-law is in every way good for you at home. There is no higher duty than to worship respectfully the feet of your mother-in-law and father-in-law. Whenever Mother thinks of me and her mind is troubled with love, then you, fair one, tell her the old stories in gentle words and console her. I swear a hundred times, fair-faced one, that I say this naturally and keep your mother's good in view.
