जीवनु मोर राम बिनु नाहीं
A fish may live without water, and a snake without its jewel, though in misery; I say plainly, without guile, I have no life without Rāma. Think, clever one: my life depends on seeing Rāma. Hearing the gentle words, the evil-minded woman burned all the more, like fire fed with butter. She said: Try crores of ways, my trick will not work on you. Give it or take it, but say no and bear the shame; I do not like long pretence. Rāma is good, you are good and wise, and Rāma's mother has known everyone well. As Kausalyā has watched for my harm, I shall give her the fruit and take pride in it.
