Chapter 313·Bharata asks to go back·Verses 1–
At dawn, after bathing, the whole company gathers: Bharata, the Brahmins and the king of Tirhut. Rāma knows in his mind that it is a good day but shrinks from saying what must now be said. The guru, the king and Bharata look at the assembly; Rāma, shy, looks at the ground. The assembly praises his gentleness and thinks nowhere is there a master as reserved as Rāma. Bharata, wise, sees Rāma's mood, rises with love and special patience, prostrates and says with folded hands that the Lord has kept all his wishes. Everyone suffered pain for his sake and Rāma suffered much, and now he asks leave to go to Ayodhyā and serve there for the term. He asks Rāma, the kind king of Kosala, to give the teaching by which his servant may see Rāma's feet again.
