Chapter 312 · Bharata sees the holy places · Verses 1–

As Bharata roams the forest, the sages are shy before his discipline and love. The holy waters, the land, the birds, deer, trees, grass, hills, woods and gardens are lovely, strange and especially pure, and Bharata asks about them, seeing all as divine. The chief of sages answers gladly with the cause, name, quality and holy power of each. In one place Bharata bathes, in another he bows, in another he gazes with delight, and in another, with the sage's leave, he sits and remembers the two brothers and Sītā. The forest gods, seeing his nature, love and fine service, bless him gladly. When two and a half watches of the day have passed he returns to see the Lord's lotus feet. In five days he sees all the places and holy sites; telling and hearing the fair fame of Hari and Hara, the day passes into evening.
