Chapter 297·Bharata finds his voice·Verses 1–दोहा 297
भरत बिबेक बराहँ बिसाला
Seeing the assembly bound by reserve, Bharata takes great patience. Seeing the bad moment, he holds his love in check, as Agastya stopped the Vindhya hill from growing. Grief, like the golden-eyed demon, had stolen the earth of his mind, the world-maker's pure heap of virtues, and Bharata's discernment, like the huge Boar, lifted it easily. He bows and with folded hands begs Rāma, the king, the guru and the holy to forgive his great impropriety, since he speaks harsh words with a soft mouth. In his heart he remembers Sarasvatī, who comes from the Mānasa lake to his lotus mouth. Bharata's speech is a lovely swan-hen, full of pure discernment, dharma and policy. Seeing the assembly slack with love, he bows and speaks, remembering Sītā and the Raghu king.सभा को संकोच के वश देखकर राम के भाई भरत ने बड़ा धीरज धरा। बुरा समय देखकर उन्होंने अपना स्नेह सँभाला, जैसे अगस्त्य ने बढ़ते हुए विन्ध्य को रोका था। शोक हिरण्याक्ष की तरह बुद्धि रूपी पृथ्वी को चुरा ले गया था, जो जगत के रचयिता के निर्मल गुणों का ढेर थी; भरत के विवेक रूपी विशाल वराह ने उसे उसी समय सहज ही उठा लिया। उन्होंने सबको हाथ जोड़कर प्रणाम किया और राम, राजा, गुरु और साधुओं से विनती की कि आज मेरा बड़ा अनुचित क्षमा कीजिए, मैं कोमल मुख से कठोर बात कहता हूँ। हृदय में उन्होंने सुन्दर सरस्वती को याद किया, जो मानस से उनके मुख-कमल पर आईं। भरत की वाणी निर्मल विवेक, धर्म और नीति से भरी सुन्दर हंसिनी है। सभा को स्नेह से शिथिल देखकर भरत ने प्रणाम किया और सीता तथा रघुराज को याद करके बोले।

उन्होंने हाथ जोड़कर सबको प्रणाम किया और राम, राजा, गुरु और साधुओं से विनती की: 'आज मेरा बड़ा अनुचित क्षमा कीजिए; मैं कोमल मुख से कठोर बात कहता हूँ.'
He bowed to everyone with folded hands, and begged Rāma, the king, the guru and the holy: 'Forgive me today for my great impropriety; I speak harsh words with a soft mouth.'
