Chapter 278·Fruit and roots arrive·Verses 1–
The Brahmins of Ayodhyā and of Mithilā, with Vasiṣṭha and Janaka's priest, who had searched the path to the highest truth, give many teachings with dharma, policy, detachment and discernment. Kauśika tells old tales and explains it all to the assembly. Then Rāma says to Kauśika that all stayed without water yesterday, and the sage says the day has already gone two and a half watches. Seeing the sage's look, the king of Tirhut says it is not right to eat grain here; all agree and, with leave, go to bathe. Then the forest-dwellers arrive with fruit, flowers, leaves and roots in many loads.
