Vasiṣṭha says that one whose knowledge is the sun that ends the night of worldly life cannot be touched by delusion or attachment; this is the greatness of the love of Sītā and Rāma. The Vedas speak of three kinds of beings, worldly, seekers and perfected, and whoever has a heart moist with love for Rāma is honored in the company of the holy. Knowledge without love for Rāma does not shine, like a ship with no helmsman. After many counsels all went to bathe at Rāma-ghāṭa. Men and women full of grief spent the day without water; even animals and birds ate nothing, let alone dear kin.
