Wicked Kaikeyī is consumed by remorse, with no one to tell and no one to blame. The people are glad to hear they can stay a few more days. The next morning everyone bathes and worships Gaṇeśa, Gaurī, Śiva and the Sun, then bows to the feet of Lakṣmī's husband. With folded hands and the end of their cloth held out, they pray that Rāma be king, Sītā queen and Ayodhyā the home of joy; that Bharata be made crown prince; and that the world's life may gain from this. They ask that Rāma's rule come to the city with all its people, so that they may die in Ayodhyā while Rāma is its king.
