Chapter 267·The Lord is a wishing tree·Verses 1–
Bharata says he has nothing left to say: the guru is pleased, the master is kind, and the sorrow his mind had imagined is gone. His fear was groundless, and the sun is not at fault if someone loses his direction. His ill luck, his mother's crookedness and hard times joined to ruin him, but Rāma kept his vow to protect the humble. This is no new way of Rāma's. The world is a mix of good and bad, but only the Lord is good, and his nature is like the wishing tree, neither for nor against anyone. Whoever goes near the tree and knows it finds all worry removed and gets what he asks, king or beggar, good or bad.

'What more shall I say or have said, Lord? You are an ocean of mercy and know every heart. The guru is pleased, my master is kind; the dark sorrow my mind imagined is gone.

I was afraid of a false fear, and the worry had no root. The sun is not to blame if someone loses his direction. My ill luck, my mother's crookedness, fate's perverse course, a hard time —

all stood together and tried to ruin me, but you, protector of the humble, kept your own vow. This is no new way of yours; the world and the Vedas know it, it is not hidden.

The world has bad and good, Lord, but you alone are good. Say, by whose goodness does anyone become good? Your nature is like the wishing tree, never for anyone, never against anyone.

Whoever goes near and knows the tree finds its shade removes all worry; begging, he gets what he wants — in this world king or beggar, good or bad.
