ईस अधीन जीव गति जानी

The whole assembly sinks in sorrow after Bharata's words, like a bed of lotuses struck by frost. Vasiṣṭha tells old stories and calms Bharata. Then Rāma speaks: Bharata should not grieve, for every creature's course is in the hands of God. Rāma says that in all three worlds and all three times the people of holy fame stand below Bharata. Anyone who thinks ill of Bharata loses this world and the next. Only fools blame their mothers, those who have never served the guru or the company of the holy. Remembering Bharata's name will wipe out sin and bring good fame. भरत की बातें सुनकर सारी सभा शोक में डूब गई, जैसे कमलों के वन पर पाला पड़ गया हो। ज्ञानी मुनि वसिष्ठ ने अनेक पुरानी कथाएँ कहकर भरत को समझाया। तब राम बोले: भाई, तुम व्यर्थ ग्लानि न करो, जीव की गति ईश्वर के अधीन है। तीनों कालों और तीनों लोकों में पुण्य-यश वाले लोग तुमसे नीचे हैं। जो तुम पर कुटिलता का विचार लाएगा, उसके लोक-परलोक बिगड़ जाएँगे। माता को दोष वे जड़ ही देते हैं जिन्होंने गुरु और साधुओं की सभा की सेवा नहीं की। तुम्हारा नाम स्मरण करने से पाप मिटेंगे और सुयश मिलेगा।
