जहाँ बैठि मुनिगन सहित

Guha runs up to a height and tells Bharata, raising his arm, to look at the great trees: pākar, jāmun, mango and tamāla. Among the finest of them a banyan shines, lovely and huge, a delight to the mind, with dark dense leaves, red fruit and unbroken shade, pleasant at all times. It is as if Brahmā had gathered darkness mixed with red and made a heap of beauty. These trees stand near the river, where Raghubar's leaf-hut is. Basil and many other fine trees have been planted, some by Sītā and some by Lakṣmaṇa. Sītā made a lovely altar with her own lotus hands in the shade of the banyan. There Sītā and wise Rāma sit with the company of sages and listen to stories, histories, āgamas, nigamas and purāṇas. तब केवट ऊँचे पर चढ़कर दौड़ा और भुजा उठाकर भरत से बोला, 'नाथ, विशाल वृक्ष देखिए: पाकर, जामुन, आम और तमाल। इन श्रेष्ठ वृक्षों के बीच सुन्दर और विशाल वट शोभित है, जिसे देखकर मन मोहित हो जाता है। उसके नीले घने पत्ते और लाल फल हैं, और उसकी सदा सुखद घनी छाया है। मानो ब्रह्मा ने अँधेरे और लालिमा को समेटकर शोभा की ढेरी रच दी हो। हे गोसाईं, ये वृक्ष नदी के समीप हैं जहाँ रघुवर की पर्णकुटी छाई है। यहाँ तुलसी और अनेक सुन्दर श्रेष्ठ वृक्ष हैं, कहीं सीता ने लगाए, कहीं लक्ष्मण ने। वट की छाया में सीता ने अपने कमल जैसे हाथों से सुन्दर वेदिका बनाई है। जहाँ मुनिगण सहित सीता और सुजान राम नित्य बैठकर सब आगम, निगम, पुराण और इतिहास की कथाएँ सुनते हैं।
