Chapter 219·Rāma always keeps his servant's wish·Verses 1–
Bṛhaspati tells Indra: Rāma loves his servant most; he is pleased by the servant's service, and enmity toward his servant is the greatest enmity. Rāma has no like or dislike and takes no merit or sin, virtue or fault. He has made the world run on action: as one does, so one tastes the fruit. Yet he acts evenly or unevenly according to the heart of the devotee and the non-devotee. Though without qualities, unstained, free of pride and unchanging, Rāma took form out of love for his devotees. He has always kept his servant's wish, and the Vedas, Purāṇas, sages and gods are witness. Knowing this, Indra should give up crookedness and love Bharata's feet. Rāma's devotee is intent on others' good, grieves at others' pain and is kind. Bharata is the crest-jewel of devotees, so Indra need not fear him.

Listen to our teaching, Indra: the servant is dearest to Rāma. He takes joy in his servant's service, and enmity toward a servant is the greatest enmity.
