Bharata says Kaikeyī loves her body in this world, and his unlucky, wretched life has had its fill. If life is dear to him even parted from his beloved, he will see and hear much more. She gave Lakṣmaṇa, Rāma and Sītā the forest and sent her husband to heaven, which she thinks was good for him. She took widowhood and shame on herself and gave the people sorrow and pain. She gave him happiness, good fame and good rule, and has done everyone's work. He asks what good this is to him, and how they can crown him on top of it. Born from Kaikeyī's womb in this world, he says nothing is unfit for him. Fate has made his case, so why do the council of five help? In the dohā he asks what cure there is for a man already possessed by a spirit and gripped by wind disease, then stung by a scorpion, if he is also made to drink liquor.भरत कहते हैं कि कैकेयी को इस जगत के शरीर से प्रेम है, और मेरे अभागे नीच प्राण खूब अघाए हैं। यदि प्रियतम के बिछुड़ने पर भी प्राण प्रिय लगे, तो अब आगे बहुत कुछ देखना-सुनना पड़ेगा। उसने लक्ष्मण, राम और सीता को वन दिया, पति को देवलोक भेजकर उनका हित किया। विधवापन और अपयश अपने ऊपर लिया और प्रजा को शोक-सन्ताप दिया। उसने मुझे सुख, सुयश और सुराज दिया, और सबका काम कर दिया। इससे अब मेरा क्या भला हुआ कि आप ऊपर से तिलक देने को कहते हैं? वे कहते हैं कि कैकेयी के उदर से जन्मे मेरे लिए कुछ भी अनुचित नहीं है। मेरी सब बात विधाता ने बनाई है; पंच (प्रजा) क्यों सहायता करते हैं? दोहे में वे पूछते हैं कि जिसे भूत लगा हो, फिर वायुरोग हो, और फिर बिच्छू ने डंक मारा हो, उसे यदि शराब पिलाई जाए तो क्या उपचार है?

'कैकेयी को इस जगत के शरीर से प्रेम है। मेरे नीच, अभागे प्राण खूब अघा गए हैं। यदि प्रियतम के बिछुड़ने पर भी प्राण मुझे प्रिय लगे, तो आगे मैं बहुत कुछ देखूँगा और सुनूँगा।
'Kaikeyī loves her body in this world. My wretched, unlucky life has had its fill. If life is dear to me even when I am parted from my beloved, I shall see and hear much more.
