Chapter 177·Bharata begins his answer·Verses 1–
Bharata says the guru gave him fine counsel, agreed by the people and ministers, and his mother gave a fitting order, which he should obey. The words of guru, father, mother and master are for one's good, and one should be glad to hear them. To weigh right and wrong while obeying brings loss of dharma and a load of sin. They give him simple counsel that would do him good, but although he understands it well, his heart is not at peace. He asks them to hear his plea and answer in a way that suits him, and to forgive his fault, as saints do not count the faults and merits of the afflicted. In the dohā he points out that his father is in heaven and Sītā and Rāma in the forest, and he is told to rule: let them judge from this what is his good and what is their own great aim.

'The guru gave me fine counsel, which the people and ministers all agree with. My mother also gave a fitting order, and I must surely carry it out with it on my head.

The words of guru, father, mother and master are for one's good. Hearing them, be glad and count them good. To weigh right and wrong while obeying costs dharma and puts a load of sin on the head.
