Chapter 175·Vasiṣṭha and the ministers urge him·Verses 1–दोहा 175
कीजिअ गुर आयसु अवसि
Vasiṣṭha tells Bharata to make the king's word true, protect the people and give up sorrow. The king will be pleased in heaven, and Bharata will earn merit and good name with no fault. It is known from the Vedas and agreed by all that the one to whom the father gives the kingdom gets the tilaka. He asks Bharata to rule and give up his distress, accepting his word as good. Hearing it, Rāma and Vaidehī will be happy, no wise man will call it wrong, and Kausalyā and the other mothers will be happy with the happiness of the people. Whoever knows Bharata's deep bond with Rāma will think well of him in every way. He can hand the kingdom over when Rāma returns, and serve him with fine love. The ministers say with folded hands that the guru's order must be obeyed, and when Raghupati returns they can do what is fitting.वसिष्ठ भरत से कहते हैं कि राजा का वचन सच करो, प्रजा का पालन करो और शोक छोड़ो। स्वर्ग में राजा सन्तुष्ट होंगे, और भरत को पुण्य और सुयश मिलेगा, कोई दोष नहीं। वेदों में प्रसिद्ध और सबको मान्य है कि पिता जिसे राज देता है वही तिलक पाता है। वे कहते हैं कि राज करो, ग्लानि छोड़ो और मेरे वचन को हितकर जानकर मानो। यह सुनकर राम और वैदेही सुखी होंगे और कोई पंडित इसे अनुचित नहीं कहेगा। कौसल्या आदि सब माताएँ भी प्रजा के सुख में सुखी होंगी। जो राम के प्रति भरत के परम भाव को जानेगा, वह हर तरह से उन्हें भला मानेगा। भरत राम के आने पर राज सौंप दें और स्नेह से सुहावनी सेवा करें। मन्त्री हाथ जोड़कर कहते हैं कि गुरु की आज्ञा अवश्य मानिए, और रघुपति के आने पर जैसा उचित हो वैसा तब कीजिएगा।

'राजा का वचन अवश्य सच करो। प्रजा का पालन करो और शोक छोड़ दो। स्वर्ग में राजा सन्तुष्ट होंगे, और तुम्हें पुण्य और सुयश मिलेगा, कोई दोष नहीं।
'Surely make the king's word true. Protect your people and give up sorrow. The king will find contentment in heaven, and you will have merit and good fame, with no fault.

वेदों में प्रसिद्ध और सबको मान्य है कि पिता जिसे राज देता है वही तिलक पाता है। राज करो, ग्लानि छोड़ो और मेरे वचन को हितकर जानकर मानो।
It is known from the Vedas and agreed by everyone that the one to whom the father gives the kingdom gets the tilaka. Rule, give up your distress, and accept my word, knowing it to be good for you.

३3सुनि सुखु लहब राम बैदेहीं। अनुचित कहब न पंडित केहीं ॥कौसल्यादि सकल महतारीं। तेउ प्रजा सुख होहिं सुखारीं ॥

यह सुनकर राम और वैदेही सुख पाएँगे, और कोई पंडित इसे अनुचित नहीं कहेगा। कौसल्या आदि सब माताएँ भी प्रजा के सुख में सुखी होंगी।
Hearing it, Rāma and Vaidehī will be glad, and no wise man will call it wrong. Kausalyā and all the other mothers will be happy in the happiness of the people.

४4परम तुम्हार राम कर जानिहि। सो सब बिधि तुम्ह सन भल मानिहि ॥सौंपेहु राजु राम कै आएँ। सेवा करेहु सनेह सुहाएँ ॥

Whoever knows your deep bond with Rāma will think well of you in every way. Hand over the kingdom when Rāma comes, and serve him with fine love.'

मन्त्री हाथ जोड़कर बोले: 'गुरु की आज्ञा अवश्य मानिए। रघुपति के आने पर जैसा उचित हो, तब वैसा कीजिएगा।'
