Chapter 173·The king is not to be pitied·Verses 1–
Vasiṣṭha finishes the list: the forest-dweller who leaves penance for pleasure; the slanderer who is angry for no cause and opposes his mother, father, guru and brother; the one who harms others in every way, feeds only his own body and is very cruel; and the one who does not drop guile and become a servant of Hari. The king of Kosala is not to be grieved for, he says: his glory is plain in the fourteen worlds. There has never been, is not and will not be a king like Bharata's father. Brahmā, Hari, Hara, Indra and the guardians of the quarters all tell the story of Daśaratha's virtues. How can anyone praise him enough, who has sons as pure as Rāma, Lakṣmaṇa, Bharata and Śatrughna?
